Welcome

I'm Dirk Jumpertz, Belgian, European, Earthling, human, engineer, husband, friend, technologist, philosopher, hobbyist, amateur and some more, very likely in random order.
I've been working in the Internet business since 1997, at the advent of the commercial Internet as we know it today in Belgium. This Internet-thing used to be a hobby of mine; I fiddled around with HTML 1.0 and "surfed" with my little 9600 baud modem at a staggering 1 kB/s, yes that is one kilobyte per second.
The hobby became my profession and I loaded my backpack with knowledge, insight and experience in this Internet-thing. I saw companies rise and fall, some eaten, some starving. I saw technologies introduced and re-introduced, some flourished, others never germinated.
I find this Internet-thing fascinating and frightening at the same time as it is changing, morphing, mutating, bubbling and trying to grow at an incredible pace pushed by an industry that invents and re-invents itself every 3 years.
I work for EURid, the European Registry for Internet Domain Name as Security Manager. Since 2014 I focus on Information Security, not from a technical point of view, but rather from a policy and governance perspective.
